How to book the best rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Cute cottage within walking distance to historic downtown Beaufort, NC. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
  • Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the property manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to inspire more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
