Tricks and tips for getting the perfect vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, consider changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing the perfect rental in the New Bern area:
- Begin by choosing your trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Enjoy Historic Downtown Beaufort, NC - Voted Best Small Town in America has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is best for your group.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
Tips for a great stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
