Finding the best rental home experience:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. Reserve your New Bern rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Finding the perfect vacation rental:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Enjoy Historic Downtown Beaufort, NC - Voted Best Small Town in America has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If not, call the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your agreement.
  • If there's an individual New Bern attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Additional considerations:

  • Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
