Rental property booking tips:

When to reserve a New Bern rental home & When to go:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

How to pick the perfect vacation home in the New Bern area:

  • Start by having your family select a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Newly Renovated Historic House. 2 bed 2 marble bath. Amazing local. Bikes incl. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is right for your family.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
  • Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

More considerations:

  • We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
