Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation property experience:

Get the best rental home value:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting and booking the rightrental:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Newly Renovated Historic House. 2 bed 2 marble bath. Amazing local. Bikes incl. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If not, email the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what is best for your group.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
  • If there's a particular New Bern beach you are enamored with, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
  • Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
