Strategies to get the very best New Bern vacation rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer time is high season in the New Bern area. Reserve your rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting the perfect vacation rental in the New Bern area:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Why Knot Getaway...Rooftop with WaterView! Unit D has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is suitable for your family.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Call the rental manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
