How to book the best New Bern vacation home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the New Bern area. To find the best value, consider shifting your family's New Bern trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Filter your search:
- Start by having your group decide on trip dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Oceanfront 3 Bedroom 2 Bath Duplex in Emerald Isle. has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your trip.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
