Tips for getting the best New Bern vacation property experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the largest rental home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local tours and attractions.

Planning and choosing the perfect New Bern rental home:

  • Start by having your family choose a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Sea Turtle Cottage - walk to everything! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you book the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
