How to book the best rental home experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Summertime is high season in Emerald Isle. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Sounds Heavenly in Emerald Isle Has Sound and Ocean Views has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the host before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
- Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
During your stay:
- Add the host's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the property manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
