Rental home tips:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer is high season in Emerald Isle. To get the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Choosing the best vacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your group choose dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Windy Dunes, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a certain New Bern beach you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or could be applied to your invoice.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas during check in. message the host immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
