Tips to get the perfect New Bern vacation home experience:

When to book a New Bern rental home & When to go:

  • Reserve your New Bern vacation in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies supply New Bern area visitor guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • To start, have your family decide on date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. A Gritty Palace. Gorgeous. Oceanfront. Pool and Hot Tub! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If not, email the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what is optimal for your trip.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or could be applied to your agreement.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
