Our top New Bern vacation rental tips and tricks:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the New Bern area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. OCEANFRONT Cottage with Covered Deck, Pet Friendly has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is suitable for your trip.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your stay:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
