Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation rental experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. To find the best value, consider changing your family's New Bern trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain deals for local tours and attractions.

Planning and choosing your New Bern rental:

  • Choose your vacation dates and budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. The Green Flash in Pine Knoll Shores, NC has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property management company before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
  • Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More considerations:

  • Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to drive new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
