Tips and Tricks to get the very best rental home experience:
When to book a New Bern rental & When to go:
- To find the best value, try changing your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Choose your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. A Shore Gem-Oceanfront! Pool right out the front door! (2 week bookings only) has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property manager before you book your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or might be applied to your contract.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
