Our top New Bern vacation rental tips and tricks:

Finding your best deal:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.

How to select the perfect rental home in the New Bern area:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Ocean-front residence with unparalleled views has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.

More tips for your visit:

  • Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
