How to find the best vacation home experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. To find the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Make a plan and pick yourrental:

  • Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Third-row beach cottage with deck, grill, washer\/dryer & screened porch has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation family.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

Tips to have a terrific stay:

  • Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the host immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
