New Bern vacation rental tips:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • Summer is high season in the New Bern area. Book your New Bern vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • In the New Bern area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Choosing and booking a perfect New Bern rental home:

  • Choose a group leader, select your trip dates, and select a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Oceanfront condo with pool, WiFi, cable, partial AC, and free parking has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property owner before booking the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your group.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or applied to your invoice.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
