How to find the best New Bern vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides have offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Choosing the best rental:
- Start by selecting trip dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Cosgrove's Cove has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the host before booking the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- During arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
