Tips to get the very best New Bern vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Book your rental property in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your search:
- Start by choosing your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Elizabeth Bell House, Soundside House in Beaufort, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a particular New Bern attraction you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
