Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. Booking in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to pick the perfect rental in Emerald Isle:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Emerald View - heated pool no fee! Ocean view just steps from the beach. has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. If not, call the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
More considerations:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
