Tips to get the very best New Bern vacation property experience:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Summer is the most expensive season in Emerald Isle. Book your New Bern rental property in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Finding the perfect vacation rental:
- First and foremost, have your family choose a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Emerald View - heated pool no fee! Ocean view just steps from the beach. has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
