Finding the best rental home experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- Summer is high season in Emerald Isle. To find the most suitable rental within your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guides which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting the perfect rental home in Emerald Isle:
- Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. New! Beautiful condo with ocean views has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is best for your group.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
