Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation property experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the New Bern area. Book your rental in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Filter your rental search:
- First, have your group commit to trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. PET FRIENDLY, Golf Cart Ride to DOWNTOWN BEAUFORT, with RESORT Style AMENITIES! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your contract.
Tips for a fantastic stay:
- Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
